According to foreign media reports, a dentist in the Thrissur district of India invented a device that can reduce the impact of car crashes. The increasing number of traffic accidents in India prompted Dhanya R.S. a teacher in the Department of Public Dental at the PSM Dental School in Thrissur, to invent the device, noting that the mechanism could save many precious lives.
Dr. Dhanya explained: “In the event of a car crash, the amount of collision energy depends on the nature of the collision. My design absorbs the energy generated by different degrees of collision, thus minimizing the impact of the collision. After the device absorbs the collision energy, the recoil effect and the rebound effect can also be suppressed in the device, and can be installed on the front, rear and side of the light, medium and heavy vehicles.
The unit is made of a multi-layer board, spring and cushioning material. It can be mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle. There are two external parts that overlap each other with a casing between the parts. The number of spring layers is 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and, correspondingly, the number of layers of the plate is 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Among them, the center spring is the hardest, the outer spring is the softest, and the middle spring is medium hardness. Of the two outer parts, one outer part is fixed to the vehicle chassis and the other is mounted on the collision surface of the cushioning material.
When a vehicle collides, the outer cushioning material absorbs the impact and then transfers the impact to the inner layer of the spring. When the spring is compressed, the impact of the collision can be reduced, thus saving valuable property and life.
